Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
TYNGSBORO, MA – Maria ‘Mary’ (Savaris) Zoghopoulos, 96, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Prior to her passing Mary had been living with her daughter, Adrianne, who adoringly maintained Mary's independence and well-being at home.
Mary was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on January 31, 1925, the daughter among six children of Antonios and Joanna (Nickolopoulos) Savaris who enriched all their children with the best old-world values.
She was educated through the Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Mary worked as a bank teller for Central Savings Bank in Lowell until her retirement and was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell. She sang in the choir for many years and was also a longtime member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, the Daughters of Penelope, and the Tuesday morning club.
Mary is survived her three children, Ty Zoghopoulos, Joanne Cassista, and Adrianne Brown, and her husband Steve; two sisters, Sophia Vasilakopoulos and Penelope Nicholas; two grandchildren, Stephanie Brown and Dr. Angel A. Cassista; many nieces and nephews, including Stella Apostolos, Gina Blau, George Manekas and their children and grandchildren.
Mary was pre-deceased by her brother Harry Savaris, and sisters, Helen Manekas, and Stella Savaris.
Her Funeral Service was held on Friday, June 4th, 2021 at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and interment followed in Westlawn Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary's name to the Holy Trinity Church.
