LAS VEGAS, NV – Greek-American magician Criss Angel is giving back during the coronavirus pandemic, donating $250,000 worth of food to Las Vegas families in need on May 14 according to Digital Journal (DJ).
Angel posted a video on Instagram about the effort and also donating 1,000 tickets for his show Mindfreak to the families at Cure 4 The Kids, a charity which helps cancer-stricken children, DJ reported. In the post, Angel thanked the many supporters, his team, the volunteers and all those who made “the most rewarding day… such a success for the patients/families & first-responders @Cure4TheKids & Summerlin Hospital. Born Christopher Nicholas Sarantakos, Angel served as an altar boy at St. Paul's Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Hempstead, NY, and is well-known for his charitable efforts for children and in the fight against pediatric cancer.
Angel spoke with The National Herald in a previous interview about his efforts, and about his son Johnny Crisstopher who was diagnosed with leukemia at 20 months old. Angel noted that every two minutes a child is diagnosed with pediatric cancer which is unacceptable. “These children live with life and death every day,” he said.
It is his mission in life, Angel observed, to use the blessings he has received for the greater good of children. The death of his father in 1998 from stomach cancer bolstered his determination to do as much as possible to help find a cure for the terrible disease. In 2009, he established his charitable foundation in honor of his father, calling it Believe- Anything is Possible. The foundation was renamed and refocused following his son’s diagnosis. The Johnny Crisstopher Children’s Charitable Foundation is one of the rare charities that does not deduct expenses from donations. All the funds raised go towards the fight against pediatric cancer.
