Greek-American Athanasios Nikolopoulos Will Be Missed

October 31, 2021

BOSTON – Athanasios ‘Tom’ Nikolopoulos  of Roslindale, MA passed away on October 7 at the age of 89. He was born in Kavouraki-Lefkohoma in Laconia, Greece, the son of the late Demetrios and Anna and the youngest of eight siblings. Adoring husband to his wife of 59 years, Eugenia (Nikoloudis) Nikolopoulos, loving father of Jim Nikolopoulos and his wife Angela of Andover and Christos Nikolopoulos and his wife Panagiota of Burlington. Cherished grandfather to Athanasios and his fiancé Christina Valeri, Jenna and her fiancé Theodore Gergos, Anthony, Katerina, and Valerie. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Pauline Seremetis and her husband Demetrios, cousin Eugenia Vossos and her husband Costas, as well as many nieces, nephews, and relatives from the United States, Canada, and Greece.

Athanasios came to the United States from Canada in 1967 to start a new life with his family. He spent his days working at the Heritage Restaurant on Moody Street in Waltham, MA, which he co-owned with business partner James Berlis. After retiring from the Heritage, he continued to work in the restaurant industry by helping his son, Christos in his restaurant. He spent much of his time volunteering in his church community at St. Nectarios in Roslindale, where he served as Parish Council president, serving as a member of the Council for many years. He played an important role in building the St. Nectarios church, which began as a furniture store and became the magnificent structure which stands today. Serving his church community gave him great joy. However, his greatest pleasure was spending time surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, whether it was attending sporting events, dance recitals, or babysitting over the years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation was held on October 12 at the St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church, 39 Belgrade Ave., Roslindale, MA, followed by the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the St. Nectarios Greek Orthodox Church. Burial took place in Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain, MA.
