Greek American Alexi Giannoulias Mulling Illinois Secretary of State Run in 2022

December 2, 2020

NEW YORK- Former Illinois Treasurer and former US Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias is said to be mulling a run for Illinois Secretary of State in 2022 according to Shia Kapos, reporting for Politico.

Giannoulias, now 44, was just 30 years old when he became then the youngest state treasurer in America in 2007. While in that position, he was known as a credit card company hawk, protecting jobs from leaving Illinois and for enacting a fiscal policy of low-risk lending which resulted in more purchasing power for the middle and working classes.

Shia Kapos in her Politico story referenced that while Alexi Giannoulias has not formally announced his political plans, the ground game needed to launch a competitive state-wide race is already being started. Kapos writes that Giannoulias already has $750,000 in the political bank with expectations that money raised for his campaign could approach $10 million.
