ATHENS - The infrastructure and transport ministry will suggest that the basic fare on public transport be reduced to 1.20 euros from June 1 until October 31, a period when reduced VAT will apply, Infrastructure and Transport Minister Kostas Karamanlis stated on Thursday, speaking to SKAI TV.

"With the VAT reduction the ticket price will fall from 1.40 euros at present to 1.28 euros and we will suggest that it drops to 1.20 euros," Karamanlis said.

He also clarified that the price of travel cards will also drop, especially for those that buy an annual travel card after June 1, because they will be cheaper.
