ATHENS -- The European Union Roadmap for Social Cohesion over the next 10 years, as well as the coordination of the EU member-states with regard to the green certificate, the vaccination programmes and the vaccine patents are expected to be raised during the informal EU summit on Friday, the first to be held live since last December.

The summit will take place on May 7-8, in Porto, Portugal.

Regarding the issue of a Covid-19 vaccine patents waiver, government sources noted that the issue had already been raised by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in April and May 2020, in order to reduce the gap between the developed and developing countries.

The Porto Social Summit focuses on the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights and the Action Plan to accelerate its implementation, presented by the European Commission on March 4. The goal, as government officials said, is to set the European social policy agenda for the next decade, but also to address the challenges of today and tomorrow, so that no one is excluded.

According to the agenda of the summit, a thematic meeting will be held on Friday, followed by the informal working dinner of the European Council in the afternoon.

On Saturday, the informal meeting of EU heads of states and governments will take place, followed by the European Council summit teleconference with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
