Gennimata to TNH: No Restrictions to Vote for Greeks Abroad

ATHENS -- Opposition Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata clarified her party's position on the vote for Greeks abroad in a statement to the New York-based Greek-American community newspaper "National Herald" on Thursday. In her statement, she called for no restrictions to the expatriate vote, adding that this has been KINAL's position since the discussion began a year ago and "we will not tolerate any tricks at the expense of Greeks abroad." According to Gennimata the revision of the bill did not stem from "governmental democratic sensitivity".

She also expressed her support for postal votes - with the necessary guarantees of transparency - especially for those who lack easy access to Greek Embassies or Consulates.

Concluding she expressed her fears that the games being played by ruling New Democracy and main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance create a risk that this opportunity for Greeks abroad will be lost because the 200 votes needed by the Constitu
