ATHENS -- Retail sales turnover dropped 24.8 pct in April, the second month of a lockdown in the country, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Tuesday. The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the volume of sales fell 83.1 pct in clothing-footwear, 52.5 pct in furniture-electrical appliances-home equipment, 52.5 pct in bookstores, 45.4 pct in department stores, 31.9 pct in fuel, 26.3 pct in food-alcohol-tobacco, 3.6 pct in pharmaceuticals-cosmetics, while supermarkets recorded a 6.2 pct increase.
The retail sales volume index (turnove rin fixed prices) fell 24.8 pct in April compared with the same month last year and fell 23.1 pct from March 2020. The seasonally-adjusted index dropped 25.5 pct in April from March 2020.
