ΑΤΗΕΝS -- The Athens Water Supply and Sewerage Company (EYDAP) announced a 1.1-billion-euro program to upgrade its network in East Attica Region, CEO Harry Sachinis and Deputy CEO Anastasios Tossios announced on Thursday.

"In the coming 20 years, EYDAP will be moving ahead significantly," Sachinis said, providing an outline of the company's plans. "Following the 'Clean Saronic Gulf' project, our target now is 'Clean Southern Euboean Gulf'," he added.

Construction is moving along on the Glyka Nera sewage system in East Attica (52 pct complete), while constructing sewage networks in Pallini, Rafina and Pikermi are expected to begin within the year, he said.

Sachinis also revealed that EYDAP's directors also hope to distribute dividends from 50 million euros in expected profits. Details will be discussed by the next board meeting, and then presented for approval to the general assembly of shareholders.

The company is in the final stage of negotiations with the Greek state to extend EYDAP's right to exclusive provision of water in its area of jurisdiction over the period 2021-2040. If regulations are approved, charges to consumers will not rise, he clarified.

Referring to the Psitalia sewage recycling plant, the bid for new projects there will be completed by September.
