Greece Shuts Down Hotels Hosting Migrants and Refugees in Grevena

ATHENS — A total of 650 migrants and refugees are leaving from the hotels in the moutainous areas of Grevena and the structure will close permanently on February 20, the head of the structure Apostolos Tsenis said to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Friday.

According to the Migration and Asylum Minister plan, 350 of them are asylum seekers and will be transferred to hosting structures in northern and central Geece and the other 300 that belong to the recognised refugees category have all the legal documents and can travel to any place of Europe they wish.

Asked if some of the latter wish to stay in Greece, Tsenis said that they "all have flight tickets for several European countries where their relatives live."

The hosting programme for refugees in the mountainous area of Grevena was launched in 2016 with a small number of refugees and it gradually hosted 1,500 people.
