Greece Sends Humanitarian Aid to Cyprus to Help with Anticipated Rise in Refugee Flows

ATHENS – Greece on Tuesday announced that humanitarian aid has been sent to Cyprus via the European Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), at Cyprus’ request.

Specifically, according to a climate crisis and civil protection ministry announcement, “Greece responded to Cyprus’ request for humanitarian aid immediately, so as to reinforce the country’s readiness to manage possibly increased refugee flows due to developments in the Middle East”.

Greece has already sent 200 tents and 800 sleeping bags to Cyprus. “The materials for hosting refugees were delivered last week to a Cyprus’ official delegation at an an event held at the port of Limassol, in the presence of the Greek Ambassador to Cyprus Ioannis Papameletiou,” the ministry said.
