Greece: Fire Breaks Out in Rethymno

ATHENS – A fire broke out in Melidoni, Mylopotamos, Rethymno, causing the immediate mobilization of the fire brigade.

The fire broke out on a slope near a village, adjacent to Melidoni, with 20 firefighters and 8 vehicles managing eventually to demarcate it after three hours. The flames were intensified by the strong winds that blow in the area and so far they have burned forest and grassland.

Two houses were threatened by the flames, but the fire brigade managed to avert the danger.
