Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ΑΤΗΕΝS — Greece confirmed 721 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, of which 8 were identified at entry points to the country, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said on Friday.
Since the start of the pandemic, Greece has confirmed 143,494 cases of which 5,579 are linked to travel abroad and 43,251 to other known cases.
Currently, 386 patients are on ventilators in Greek hospitals. Their median age is 68, and 85.2 percent have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or more, while 265 of them are men. Another 950 have been discharged from intensive care units since the pandemic began.
EODY also confirmed 49 deaths on Friday, bringing the total of people who have died of Covid-19 since the pandemic began in Greece to 5,195. Of the latter, their median age was 79 years and nearly all (95.5 pct) had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or more. In addtion, 3,072 were men.
Earlier today, additional lockdown restrictions were imposed on the village of Anthili in Fthiotida between 6:00 on Friday morning until 6:00 on January 18, due to high levels of the novel coronavirus.
Deputy Civil Protection and Crisis Management Minister Nikos Hardalias, acting on findings from testing and track and trace, has imposed a curfew from 18:00 until 5:00 each day, apart for employees heading to and from work, a suspension of all religious services and the closure of all shops.
