ATHENS – Greece confirmed 55,242 SARS-CoV-2 cases in the week of October 10-16, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in its weekly statistics report on Tuesday.
This is equivalent to 5,295 coronavirus cases per 1 mln people (weekly change: +8%), with 21% of the new weekly infections being reinfections. All confirmed infections since the pandemic began are 5,081,981.
A total of 1,351 Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospital during the week of October 10-16 (193 patients on a weekly average, +23% compared to the previous week), while the total number of Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals for the same week was 968 (138 as weekly average, or +10% compared to previous week).
In addition, 74 hospital patients were on ventilators on October 16. Their median age is 73 years and 95.9% have an underlying condition and/or are aged 70 or over.
During the week of October 10-16 there were also 107 deaths from Covid-19, or 10 deaths per 1 mln people (weekly change: -5%), of whom 13 (12%) died after at least 29 days since their coronavirus infection was confirmed, bringing the total of pandemic victims since the pandemic began to 33,426. Of the people who died, 96% had an underlying condition and/or were aged 70 or above.
The median age of the infected people is 39 years, while the median age of the deceased is 80 years.
