Greece: Communities Evacuated After Fire Breaks Out in Northern Evia

ATHENS — Two residential communities in the northwest of Evia island, Retsinolakkos and Kokinni, and the coastal village of Mourtias, have been ordered to evacuate for precautionary reasons after a fire broke out, the Fire Brigade reported on Tuesday.

The fire is burning is raging dangerously close to the town of Limni Evias and summer camps around that area.

Firefighting forces from elsewhere in Evia and from neighboring prefectures are heading to the area, where high winds and very high temperatures prevail.

Meanwhile, the fire that broke out earlier in the day at Krieza, southeastern Evia, has been contained and does not pose a threat, added the Fire Brigade.


ATHENS - The Iranian embassy, in the northeastern suburb of Psychiko, was attacked by a petrol bomb late on Saturday night.
