Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS – The passenger/car ferry “Pelagitis” on Thursday had a slight collision with the Panama-flagged freighter “Paradise Island” at sea, while they were sailing in the Kafirea Straits, the shipping ministry reported. There are no reports of injuries or of either ship taking on water, while the circumstances of the collision are not yet known.
The “Pelagitis” had sailed from Piraeus port on Thursday morning with four passengers, nine cars, 21 trucks, three motorcycles and a crew of 21 on board, heading for the island of Chios. The freighter had set sail from the Spanish port of Algeciras bound for Nemrut in Turkey, with a crew of 21.
Both ships have gone to Karystos Bay under their own power and anchored with safety while they wait for inspection.
