Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
ATHENS – Greek Migration & Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi and Swiss Confederation State Secretary for Migration Christine Schraner Burgener signed an agreement on unaccompanied minors, on the sidelines of the 2nd European Conference on Border Management that is being held in Athens on February 23-24.
This agreement follows up on the bilateral Framework Agreement on support for Greece, which was signed by Mitarachi and Switzerland’s former Minister of Justice & Police and current Minister of Finance, Karin Keller-Sutter, in Luxembourg on October 14, 2022.
The agreement concerns the funding of emergency accommodation facilities for unaccompanied minors, and will involve the continued operation of 240 accommodation facilities on the Greek mainland.
Under the Framework Agreement between the two countries, the Swiss Confederation will make a total contribution of 40 million euros.
Other support measures for Greece to be promoted in the near future include boosting voluntary returns to countries of origin, and integration actions for approved refugees, it was noted in the Greek ministry’s announcement.
