Grand Opening for Haywire Restaurant in Houston, TX

HOUSTON, TX – The grand opening of the third location of the Haywire restaurant chain was held on June 1 in Houston, where the assistant general manager is the writer’s grandson, Christos Papadopoulos. The restaurant has several rooms and a capacity of 650 people.

Christos Papadopoulos was born on October 17, 1996, in New Jersey. His parents moved the family to Houston due to work and became members of the community of St. Basil the Great where Christos attended Greek School. After graduating high school, he studied Culinary and Restaurant Management at the University of Oklahoma. Right after University, he worked at Niko Niko’s in Houston as one of the managers, however, during the coronavirus pandemic, he returned to Oklahoma as one of the managers at the lakefront Mexican restaurant, Mama Roja Mexican Kitchen.

Two years later, the nostalgia of family and friends brought Papadopoulos back to Houston to work as one of the managers at one of the Pappas brothers’ restaurants – it should be noted that the Pappas family are great benefactors of the Texas Greek community and always support the Greek youth.

Papadopoulos, now 27 years old, was recognized for his abilities and personality by Judd Fruia, Vice President of Operations for Front Burner Restaurants, who worked for 22 years for Pappas Restaurants, and Jack Gibbons, Front Burner Restaurants Chief Executive Officer, who offered him the position of assistant general manager at Haywire Restaurant in Houston.

The restaurant has hired over 160 people handpicked by himself and the general manager, and some of them are Greek-Americans who grew up together in the community of St. Basil in Houston, Texas.

Every day one finds that Greek children who grow up in Greek communities are progressing, with the principles they learn from their parents being strengthened by the Church circle and the opportunities offered by the United States of America. Papadopoulos ran the souvlaki stand at this year’s church festival, along with his friends who grew up in the community of St. Basil. Greek children do not forget their roots and strengthen our Greek culture.
