BROOKLINE, MA – The exhibition ‘Elena Borstein: Cyclades‘ on display at the Maliotis Cultural Center, 50 Goddard Avenue in Brookline, through March 15. The exhibition featuring paintings and drawings by Elena Borstein is being sponsored by the Maliotis Cultural Center with collaboration by the Institute of Eastern Mediterranean Studies at Emmanuel College. NEW YORK – Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, NYC ‘Lenten Lectures: Cultivating Our Prayer Lives’ place on four Friday evenings, 6 PM, following the Salutations to the Theotokos, beginning March 3 with Steven Christoforou, MDiv, of Focus North America, discussing ‘God Is with Us: Opening Our Hearts to the Lord’s Presence’. On March 10, the V. Rev. Archimandrite Bartholomew Mercado, Chaplain of the Holy Cross Chapel and instructor of Canon Law AT HCHC presents ‘Praying the Divine Liturgy’. On March 17, Christos Stavropoulos, Professor of Byzantine Music and Protopsaltis at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church presents ‘The Role of Byzantine Music in Our Prayer Lives’. The lecture series concludes on March 31 with Rachel Contos, MA, PhD candidate in Theological and Social Ethics at Fordham University, on ‘Cultivating Our Prayer Life by Following the Example of the Theotokos’. The Greek Orthodox Cathedral of St. Paul Lenten Dinner Lecture Series takes place on Wednesdays beginning March 1 with speaker Fr. Elias Pappas and running through April 5. On March 8, Fr. Panagiotis Papazafiropoulos is the speaker, followed by Fr. Gregory Stamkopoulos on March 22, and Gregory Gounardes on March 29. The speaker for April 5 has yet to be announced. ONLINE – The Eastern Mediterranean Business Culture Alliance (EMBCA) presents the panel discussion titled ‘The Legacy of Former King Constantine II of Greece’ on Sunday, March 5, 2 PM ET. The panel discussion will be introduced and moderated by Lou Katsos and Marina A. Belessis Casoria, EMBCA’s President and EVP respectively. The distinguished panel, in formation, will include author and investigative journalist Nicholas Gage; educator and community leader Peter Stavrianidis, PhD; journalist and author Spiridoula Irida Spanea; journalist and public relations consultant Dimitrios Filios; and author/poet Nicholas Alexiou, Professor of Sociology, and Director of the American Hellenic Project (HAP). The featured speakers are Yvette Manessis Corporon, international bestselling author and Emmy Award-winning producer; Eirini Grapsia, Acting Coordinator of Educational Affairs of the Coordinating Office of Greek Education at the Consulate General of Greece in New York; and Christina Tettonis, Superintendent of the Hellenic Classical Charter Schools (HCCS). NEW YORK – Greek-Americans in the New York Tri-State area are invited to celebrate ‘Maestro’, which received the first ever exclusive global distribution deal for a Greek scripted television series on Netflix, at an event hosted by the Consulate General of Greece in New York on Wednesday, March 15, 6:30 PM, at the Chiotes Hall of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, 337 East 74th Street in New York City. The event will acknowledge the success of Mega TV’s acclaimed Greek television series, Maestro, with a screening of the series teaser, followed by a Q&A with the creator and star Christoforos Papakaliatis, and a cocktail reception. The parade route proceeds from Haven Street, up Eastern Avenue, turns right onto Ponca Street, and ends two blocks past the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at Fait Avenue.
