STOCKBRIDGE, MA – ‘Microcosms: A Solo Exhibition of Selected Works by Peter D. Gerakaris’ runs through August 4 at the Berkshire Botanical Garden (BBG) Leonhardt Galleries, 5 West Stockbridge Road in Stockbridge, MA. The Opening Reception took place June 8. The creator of the ‘Spotted Owl Mosaic’, a site-specific public installation that resides in the BBG’s outdoor garden, Greek-American artist Peter D. Gerakaris will present an indoor solo exhibition of mixed-media artworks that engage myriad nature-culture motifs through vibrant, pluralistic strands. JULY 25-28

ASTORIA – The Great Feast and annual celebration of the Sacred Patriarchal Monastery of St. Irene Chrysovalantou, 36-07 23rd Avenue in Astoria, takes place July 25-28, 5-11 PM daily. This Feast attracts thousands of faithful every year who come to venerate the icon of the saint, celebrate, and pray during the panegyric holy services. A variety of Greek foods and pastries, games and rides for children, performances of Greek dances by the Greek American Folklore Society and Greek music are highlights of this family-oriented celebration. Everyone is welcome. On Thursday, July 25, the Vespers Service and the ‘Agiasmos’ Blessing of the Festival will be held at 7 PM. On Sunday, July 28, the Feast Day of St. Irene Chrysovalantou begins with the Orthros and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, 8-11:30 AM, officiated by His Grace Bishop Nektarios of Diokleia, representative of His All-Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch, who will read the Patriarchal Message, and will be followed by the Great Procession of the Miraculous Icon of St. Irene Chrysovalantou at 11:30 AM with the Vespers and Paraklesis service to St. Irene Chrysovalantou for health at 7 PM. ONLINE – The UCLA SNF Center for the Study of Hellenic Culture and the Consulate General of Greece in Los Angeles present the Book Club conversation on ‘The Murderess’ by Alexandros Papadiamantis on Saturday, July 27, 10 AM Los Angeles/8 PM Greece, via Zoom. Led by Professor Sharon Gerstel, Director of the UCLA SNF Center for the Study of Hellenic Center, and Consul General of Greece in Los Angeles Christina Valassopoulou, this academic year’s book club will feature Greek books in translation. The discussion of the novel will focus on the author’s representation of society on a remote Greek island. Participants are encouraged to read the novel in Greek or English.
