Gianaris, Mamdani Announce Mobile COVID Testing Site in Athens Square Park

October 24, 2021

ASTORIA – New York State Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris and Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani announced a mobile COVID-19 testing site will be at Athens Square Park Monday, October 25 through Friday, October 29, 8 AM-7 PM daily. This mobile testing site comes after advocacy from both Senator Gianaris and Assembly Member Mamdani to NYC Health and Hospitals, urging a site in the area.

“We must stay vigilant to beat the COVID-19 pandemic, including ensuring regular testing and contact tracing,” said Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris. “I am pleased NYC Health and Hospitals is responding to our request to swiftly put a mobile testing unit at Athens Square Park.”

“We advocated for more accessible COVID-19 testing in our neighborhood because of the accessibility issues our we heard our neighbors facing — individuals with limited mobility finding it hard to get tested, essential workers with limited free hours to wait for a test, and Astorians who didn’t know where they could go,” said Assembly Member Zohran K. Mamdani. “We’re excited that NYC Health and Hospitals responded to our request to have a mobile testing site in Athens Park.”

The mobile testing van will offer PCR and Rapid Antigen Testing. It is provided through the NYC Health and Hospitals Test and Trace Corps. This location is near several area schools.
