Gianaris Delivers 1,000 Face Masks, Hand Sanitizer to LIC’s Floating Hospital

LONG ISLAND CITY, NY – Senate Deputy Leader Michael Gianaris continued his efforts to supply neighborhood residents and frontline workers with needed supplies by delivering 1,000 face masks and hand sanitizer to The Floating Hospital in Long Island City on May 12. Senator Gianaris worked to secure these supplies from City and State stockpiles.

“The Floating Hospital has been doing incredible work since the pandemic began and I am pleased to support their efforts,” said Senate Deputy Leader Gianaris. “It is critical we make sure our communities have the supplies needed to get through this crisis.”

“Thank you, Senator Gianaris, for the hand sanitizer and masks. We are grateful to be a part of a caring and generous community that is served so well by leaders like you. Our need for these essential supplies is ongoing and we can guarantee that they will be put to good use,” said Dr. Shani Andre, Chief Medical Officer of the Floating Hospital.

The Floating Hospital was recently designated as Queens’ only site where a COVID-19 positive individual can be referred to a hotel room to isolate from vulnerable family members.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Senator Gianaris has focused his efforts on providing relief for local care providers and mutual aid organizations, including the Hungry Monk pantry in Ridgewood, Urban Upbound in Long Island City, the Astoria Mutual Aid Society, and LIC Relief. He was able to supply several of these organizations with food for distribution and face masks for volunteers.

Senator Gianaris is encouraging residents in need of assistance to contact organizations like those mentioned above who are providing help.

Information on relief efforts is found below and on Senator Gianaris’ website, gianaris.nysenate.gov, where he has created a dedicated page for coronavirus-related resources.
