Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
NANUET, NY – AHEPA Chapter #455 held an honor Farewell Dinner at The New 304 Diner in Nanuet on October 3 for two brothers who will be relocating from Rockland County, NY to sunny Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, North Carolina. The honorees, Lazaros Laskos and Gus Drivas were presented with Defender of Hellenism awards from their local Chapter brotherhood at a dinner that was attended by Tom Dushas, Supreme Governor of Region 3 (NY, NJ and Delaware), and Vassilios Chrissochos, Director of Culture & Arts Empire District 6, and in the presence of family and friends. Master of Ceremonies was Chapter President George Hanos who recapped the contributions and accomplishments of the honorees during their years in AHEPA, the relocating brothers will truly be missed!
This event highlights the evolution happening at older New York Chapters of AHEPA that are facing challenges with members retiring from the metropolitan cities and going south to better climates. New York Chapters are putting forth collective efforts to increase membership now so that our traditions and cultural roots continue to remain relevant.
