ATHENS — Opposition Movement for Change (KINAL) party leader Fofi Gennimata was received by President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou at the presidential mansion on Tuesday, for a discussion focusing on the climate of tension that has arisen in the Southeastern Mediterranean and the risks this entails, as a result of Turkey's repeated provocations that fully contravene international law.
"Counter to this strategy, our country has ranged determination in the defense of its sovereign rights and an enduring respect for international treaties, international law and the obligations that arise from them, as well as a uniform national line," Sakellaropoulou said.
"With calmness and unity we can overcome these dangers and face the future with greater optimism," she added.

The president praised KINAL's contribution to raising the citizens awareness to the dangers of the pandemic and referred to the difficulties ahead as the country tried to deal with the economic repercussions of the health crisis, highlighting the significance of Europe's economic support for alleviating their impact as much as possible.
Gennimata underlined the historic significance of their meeting, as the first in the country's history of a woman political party leader with a female president of Greece and the "major opportunity to contribute, on our part, through our difference, our viewpoint."
She noted that the country cannot afford a second lockdown and stressed the need for unity, while repeating her proposal for a meeting of a political party leaders' council chaired by the president to discuss the national line on foreign policy issues.
