Gennimata: Gov’t Indifferent to Crowding in Public Transport These Last Six Months

November 3, 2020

ATHENS — The government "did absolutely nothing for the unacceptable crowding in mass transportation means," Movement for Change (KINAL) leader Fofi Gennimata charged on Tuesday, after meeting with representatives of workers' unions in the sector.

In statements after the teleconference meeting, she noted that "nearly 300 buses are immobilized for lack of spare parts and mechanics." After six months of doing nothing for the crowding, she said, the government was finally pressured into announcing on October 30 the hiring of more drivers and mechanics. This, she stressed, should happen with fast-track processes.
