Foreign Countries Εxpress Condolences for Deaths of 10 Greeks in Eastern Ukraine

ATHENS – Greece’s Foreign Affairs Ministry condemned the deaths of 10 members of the Greek minority from bombing in eastern Ukraine late on Saturday, calling the attacks “unacceptable criminal acts” and calling on Russia to stop its operations against civilians.

A demarche was lodged with the Russian Embassy as well and the Russian ambassador summoned to the ministry.

The deaths were condemned by Greece’s political leaders including the Greek president, prime minister, heads and representatives of political parties, embassies, and foreign leaders.

On Sunday, the Cyprus Republic, France, Germany, Norway, Poland, and Sweden were among the countries expressing condolences to Greece and the families of those killed in eastern Ukraine.


ATHENS - A Mixed Jury Criminal Appeals Court on Friday handed down sentences of life and 15 years imprisonment on the two young men found guilty of the murder and gang rape of 21-year-old student Eleni Topaloudi, imposing the same sentence as that imposed by a lower court.
