NEW YORK – Cava Oinos, importer of selected Greek wines, presented specialty wines and savory snacks on June 4 at the city's new undiscovered wine bar, Stafili, 796 Greenwich Street in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan. The event, one of the first in-person since the easing of the pandemic restrictions, highlighted the exceptional Greek wines from Dougos Winery and Lantides Winery paired with delicious food at the charming venue. Attendees were transported to Greece through the flavors of the great food and wine as well as the hospitality at Stafili.
Cava Oinos Wines Sales Manager Crystallia Karl introduced each premium wine and the food pairings. The tasting began with the white wine Anosis from Lantides Winery, 100% Moschofilero, from the Peloponnese, paired with the arugula salad with goat cheese, dried cranberries, honey and balsamic glaze dressing.
The refreshing Goldavine Chardonnay, also from Lantides, was the next white wine presented at the tasting, followed by Acacia Dougos Winery of the Assyrtiko variety combined with a dash of Sauvignon Blanc which also paired well with the salad and the bruschettes topped with cherry tomatoes, basil pesto and graviera flakes.
The tasting continued with the rose wines Little Ark Lantides Winery - 100% Moscholfilero, and XS Rose Dougos Winery made with Xinomavro and Syrah varieties. The red wines rounded out the evening with three wines from Lantides Winery - Nemea, Goldvine Cabernet, and Aenaon, followed by Rapsani from Dougos Winery all of which paired perfectly with the foods that were served.
Bruschettes topped with prosciutto, manouri cheese, balsamic glaze, and black pepper; feta cheese with olive tapenade, cherry tomatoes, oregano and garlic oil; goat cheese with fig tartare and balsamic glaze; and lamb prosciutto with olive tapenade and lemon were also on the menu, along with the Stafili Plate which featured three meats, proscuitto, sopressata, and black truffle salami as well as three cheeses, manouri, graviera, and vlahotiri.
Among those present were the Director of the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Consulate General of Greece in New York Georgios Michailidis, Stafili owner and founder Chris Lampadaris, The Kohas Agency founder Artemis Kohas, and The National Herald publisher-editor Vanessa Diamataris.
