Travelers from the United Arab Emirates among those in an early group of select countries allowed to travel to Greece are getting a bargain too: Wizz Air Abu Dhabi said a ticket - one way - can be had for as little as $54.

Greece is allowing some tourists who are vaccinated or can show proof of a negative Coronavirus test, including from the UAE, with Wizz Air flying to Greece’s second-largest city of Thessaloniki on Thursdays.

That will pick up with added flights on Monday and and Friday in June and on Sunday as well in July when the summer season swings into high gear and Greece expects a partial comeback from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Permanent residents of the UAE have been allowed to enter Greece without quarantine since April 19, provided they present a negative PCR test 72 hours before the arrival or a vaccination certificate, noted Arab News.

“Athens and Thessaloniki provide incredible historic and cultural experiences and we look forward to enabling people to witness all that Greece has to offer,” Kees Van Schaick, the airline’s Managing Director said in a statement.

Visitors still must adhere to health restrictions, including wearing masks but the New Democracy government has lifted most measures in easing an already lenient lockdown and traffic has picked up on streets and pedestrian walkways.

Vaccination programs around the world are beginning to show signs of pushing back the pandemic although the European Union is still lagging because of slow deliveries and bloc leaders unable to get a consensus on which doses should be allowed and over quarantine rules in effect.
