THESSALONIKI – Many flights at Macedonia airport in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki were cancelled on Thursday due to strong winds of up to 9 on the Beaufort scale blowing in the area.

According to Fraport press officer Yiannis Papazoglou, the early morning flights were carried out normally but four later flights to Chios, Athens and Kalamata and from Kalamata to Thessaloniki were cancelled.

Meanwhile there were delays in many scheduled flights due to the gale force winds. The meteorological service expects winds to start abating from the afternoon.
