First Case of Monkeypox Infection in Greece

ATHENS – The first case of the monkeypox virus has been detected in Greece, according to initial tests, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said in a statement late on Wednesday.

The patient, who had recently traveled to Portugal, is in a stable condition in hospital, according to EODY.

Samples have been sent to the the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) to confirm that the genomes belong to the monkeypox virus.
