PATRAS, Greece – A fire has broken out in the outskirts of the city of Patras, Peloponnese near housed communities, the Fire Brigade reported on Wednesday.
A force of 50 firefighters, 16 fire engines and 2 ground teams, assisted by 2 aircraft and 5 helicopters, are all battling the blaze at Elekistra.
Municipal water trucks are also helping in the operation.
The city's orbital road has been closed off for safety reasons.
Meanwhile, the Fire Brigade ordered the precautionary evacuation of the settlement of Souli, which is situated near Elekistra.
