Fire near Samos Hotspot Fully Contained; Greek Police Examining Possibility of Arson

September 16, 2020

SAMOS, Greece — A fire that broke out near the refugee and migrant reception and identification centre on the island of Samos has been fully contained, though some fire-fighting vehicles remained nearby on Wednesday in case the fire rekindled due to the strong wind.

Police are examining the possibility that arson may have been involved and detained 13 young foreign nationals for questioning, of which 10 have already been released as there was no evidence against them. They are still questioning the remaining three, who are also expected to be released.
