Fire-Fighting Forces Strengthened on Paros

PAROS – The fire-fighting forces battling a fire that broke out on the island of Paros late on Monday were being reinforced on Tuesday, as there were small rekindle fires in the early hours of the day.

In particular, two aircraft with a ground team from the island of Syros are to assist the efforts of the local fire brigade. In total, 20 firefighters and six vehicles are operating at the site along with one ground crew, while assistance is provided by local authority water tankers and volunteers.

The fire broke out for unknown reasons at 21.30 on Monday at the foot of Agios Antonios, near the monastery, on the side of Molos and Kalogeros. The fire was burning low vegetation and then changed course and started moving towards Piso Livadi, without posing a threat to residential areas. Due to the strong winds blowing in the area, the fire was constantly was changing direction.
