Fire Broke Out on Mount Athos

ATHENS — A fire broke out on Wednesday on Mount Athos, where strong ground and air firefighting forces are operating.

The fire, according to sources, started for an unknown reason at 11:45 in the morning in olive groves, near the Pantokratoros Monastery, but the monastery is not threatened. The work of the firefighters is hampered by strong winds blowing in the area.

Two firefighting aircraft are operating from the air.
