Fire Brigade, Greek Police Experts to Investigate Evros Fires

ATHENS — Deputy Minister for Civil Protection & Crisis Management Nikos Hardalias on Wednesday ordered a team of fire brigade and police experts to investigate, on site, the causes of the multiple fires that have recently broken out in the Evros region.

"In the last 48 hours, 15 forest fires broke out in Evros, in the municipalities of Alexandroupolis, Soufli, Didimoticho and Orestiada, and according to the statistics of recent years, the number of new fires is unprecedented in relation to seasonal meteorological data. The state mechanism is on alert and vigilant, in order to immediately deal with any new fires, but also to investigate theis causes," said the Chief of the Fire Brigade Stefanos Kolokouris.



ATHENS – The lingering COVID-19 pandemic that will enter its third year in March has put so much pressure on Greek public hospitals that some surgeries will be delayed until toward the end of 2022.
