Sailing Tours (Skippered Yacht Charters)

Exploring Creta’s experience in sailing was launched in 1994 by the love of Captain Yiannis Kouklakis (retired officer of the Hellenic Navy) for the sea. He created the family company that began 26 years ago mainly in the Ionian and Aegean Sea and now extends to the beautiful Cretan waters and especially in Chania.

Exploring Creta offers exclusive services to visitors, providing the hospitality and family feeling, treating visitors as guests, not clients.

The kind and competent staff with knowledge and experience in the field offers its services with consistency and a feeling of deep responsibility.

The comfort and elegance of Exploring Creta’s yachts ensures an exceptional sailing experience.

Suggested Sailing Cruises:

Balos beach and Gramvousa island (the island of pirates) on a wooden gulet sailing vessel features seven hours of private sailing out of Kissamos port. The day begins with setting sail to the beautiful Balos beach and Gramvousa island giving guests the opportunity to experience a unique experience so close but yet so far from the crowds. During stops, special Cretan snacks and refreshments from the open bar are served. Additionally, during the full day private cruises a homemade lunch based on the local Mediterranean cuisine is prepared on the boat.

The sailing cruise out of the old Venetian harbor of Chania on a sailing yacht also features seven hours of private sailing on a very well-maintained mono-hulled sailing yacht 40 feet long, fully equipped with all the necessary equipment for a unique escape on the sea. Guided by an experienced skipper with many years of sailing experience will ensure a pleasant day you will never forget.

‘On the trails of the ancient mariners’ – an evening cultural cruise around Chania – is a four-hour cruise especially for the history enthusiast. After a short walk and introduction at the old harbor of Chania, board the ship for a sail back in time when Chania was called ‘La Canea’ and it was filled with Venetian merchant and military galleys. Sailing out of the harbor, travel further back in time to learn the long and fascinating history and prehistory of Chania and Crete while also discovering the secrets of ancient navigation. From the picturesque Venetian harbor to the over-2,000-meter peaks of the White Mountains, the view from the sea is just breathtaking. Sailing westward towards Thodorou, an uninhabited islet and wildlife refuge for the wild Cretan goat, guests will learn about the islet’s history and important battles dating from the Venetian period to World War II. After a relaxing swim at the south coast of Thodorou, the boat sails east and arrives at the scenic old tannery district of Chania, where the sunset and the historic buildings provide the perfect, almost cinematic, backdrop for a light snack and a glass of wine. The tour, offered in English and Italian, is led by an archaeologist/licensed tourist guide and a professional skipper.

Suggested weekly plan for small groups and families of 4 to 10 people includes:

Seven nights at the Villa Masseria Falassarna, designed in a soft and soothing style, with four private rooms with sea view, able to accommodate up to eight adults and three extra child beds. The entire villa is air-conditioned and features ‘sleep on nature’ bedding by COCOMAT, a terrace, a heated infinity swimming pool, a summer kitchen with a barbecue and a wood pizza oven, tables and chairs, Greek tavern-style, under a shady pergola. The villa is built on more than 5000 square meters of land including fifty old olive trees and more than a hundred in ‘nursery’ to satisfy the curiosity of any budding farmer. Finally, a roof terrace – a real promontory offers – 360-degree views of the surrounding area during the day and an open planetarium at night.

Villa Masseria Falasarna is an ideal setting for a dream holiday in an exceptional location with a breathtaking view over Falasarna Bay. All the services and comforts have been thought of to satisfy the most demanding guests. A Cretan music and Barbeque night (a private fest at the villa) is also available.

The Exploring and Driving Creta services offer visitors the most comfortable, safe, and quick way to travel from International Airports and ports of Crete to practically any location in the cities.

Additional services are available upon request, including fitness/yoga days, wedding celebrations with catering, wedding photo shoots, and special events with fireworks and more.
