Exclusion for Maria Sakkari in the Montreal Masters

Maria Sakkari’s appearance at the Montreal Masters was short-lived as she lost her first match in the tournament to Danielle Collins in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

The 28-year-old Greek champion did not have a good day and was eliminated early from the Canadian tournament.

Neither athlete had a good day on her serve, but what played a crucial role in the match was Collins’ deep returns that made it difficult for Sakkari.

Collins came out strong in the match and went on to lead 5-1, however, Sakkari managed to close the gap to 5-4. She had a chance to bring the set back to level by serving but Collins closed out the first set with another break to win 6-4.

Sakkari started the second set with a break, but the rest belonged to her opponent. Collins took six of the next seven games to close out the second set and consequently the match 6-2.
