EU’s Spokesperson: EU Expectation Is the De-Escalation of the Tension

November 23, 2020

BRUSSELS — The European Union expects a de-escalation from Turkey, European Commission spokesperson for foreign policy issues Peter Stano said at a press briefing on Monday.

Asked about the meetings held by Turkish presidency spokesperson Ibrahim Kalin in Brussels, Stano said that "the EU was very clear" regarding the framework of its expectations and that this was conveyed to Kalin, adding that "the EU expects a de-escalation."

He noted that the EU leaders will meet again in December to examine what has been done on Turkey's part and to re-evaluate whether the EU will follow the path of the positive agenda and a commitment to a constructive dialogue or whether to explore all other choices that are on the table, as was underlined in the conclusions of the EU Summit in October, while he reiterated the EU's solidarity with Greece and Cyprus.
