September 18, 2020

BRUSSELS — The European Commission on Friday decided to give an additional 23.8 million euros to Greece, in the context of the Internal Security Fund, to support the management of the borders, which are also the external borders of the EU.

This sum will support the deployment of border guards to improve monitoring of the borders and deal with the need to reinforce the reception and identification service on the islands of the Aegean, supporting the deployment of additional staff.

The Commission also approved additional funding of 12.8 million euros for Bulgaria to help guard its southern external borders.
