Epidaurus Performances Aug. 6-8 Cancelled Over High Fire Risk

ATHENS — Performances at the Ancient Theater of Epidaurus and the Little Theater of Epidaurus scheduled on August 6 through 8 are cancelled due to a high-alert warning for fire, the Athens-Epidaurus Festival managers said on Friday.

The cancelled performances include:

– Euripides' "Eleni", directed by Vassilis Papavassiliou, with the State Theater of Northern Greece, scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday (August 6-8) at the main theater, and

– Euripides Lascarides' "Euripides' Euripides", with Osmosis, scheduled on Friday and Saturday at the Little theater.

The organizers said they based their decision on a law act published Thursday that designated Peloponnesos as a high-danger area for fires through Monday (Aug. 9).

"Every effort will be made to reschedule the performances within the timetable of the current artistic program," they said, while an update will be provided for those who have already purchased tickets. "The thoughts of the entire Athens-Epidaurus Festival staff are with our fellow citizens who have been affected by the fires," it added.
