DOP Ottawa Euphrosyne Chapter #292 Commemorates 50th Sorting Shift at the Food Bank

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Daughters of Penelope (DOP) Ottawa Euphrosyne Chapter #292 completed their 50th sorting shift at the Ottawa Food Bank on May 10. “The Ottawa DOP Sisters, along with AHEPA Youth and many family members and friends continue our community work and we are so grateful for all the volunteers who support us,” the Chapter said via email. “To date we have offered over 1,250 volunteer hours and have raised just over $21,500 for our Food Bank and its various programs including the Baby Basics Program. We share the Ottawa Food Bank’s vision of ‘healthy, accessible, sustainable food for all.’”

The sorting and packing section of the warehouse is completely run by volunteers. The goal at every shift is to check, group and package the food, household and personal items which are received from the community, as well as corporate and food industry partners, into roughly 30 different categories. These items are then shipped to the 112 agencies in Ottawa which help feed and assist over 44,000 individuals each month. With the ever-increasing demand at food banks, please consider supporting your local food bank.
