Development Min Georgiadis Sees Revived German Interest in Greece

ATHENS — Development and Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis on Tuesday expressed his conviction that there will be a revival of interest among German firms in the potential investment opportunities opening up in Greece once Covid-19 starts to subside, while speaking at the online 5th German-Hellenic Economic Forum.

Georgiadis noted that Germany was the country with the most foreign direct investments in Greece and continued to make major investments throughout the economic crisis, while Greece has rewarded this trust with successful investments, such as the DT investment in the Hellenic Telecommunications Organisation, Fraport's 14 regional airports, the RWE-PPC collaboration in renewable energy and the TeamViewer investment in Ioannina.

He also referred to the cancellation of the 2020 Thessaloniki International Fair, where Germany was to be the honoured country, saying the opportunity might arise again in two or maybe three years. He also highlighted possible prospects for further cooperation, such as in renewable energy, high technology and tourism.

The online-only event entitled "Development Vision – Emblematic investments (Entwicklungsvision: Emblematische Investitionen) is taking place on June 8-9, is organised by the German-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Industry with the support of the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry, under the auspices of the Greek development ministry.

The Athens-Macedonian News Agency is media sponsor of the event.
