February 16, 2023

BRUSSELS – Greek MEP Eva Kaili, who has been detained in Belgium over the European Parliament case of corruption known as Qatargate, will appear before a pretrial council on Thursday morning.

It will be the third time she will appear before the council, which will decide whether to release her from jail on conditions or extend her detention. Kaili was arrested on December 9, 2022.

She will be represented by defense lawyer Sven Mary, replacing Andre Risopoulos, while another of her lawyers, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, will also attend.

In addition to Kaili, also appearing before the council over the same case are Belgian MEP Marc Tarabella (arrested February 10, 2023) and Italian former MEP Antonio Panzeri (also arrested December 9).
