VIENNA — Τhe extraordinary EU Foreign Ministers Council was concluded on Friday. The first issue discussed was the Turkish provocativeness.
Turkey is the only responsible for the escalation of the tension in the eastern Mediterranean and should immediately leave from the Greek continental shelf, said Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias to the Council meeting and to US State Secretary Mike Pompeo with whom he met earlier on Friday in Vienna. This is a prerequisite in order to have a de-escalation of the tension.
Referring to his meeting with Pompeo that was held in Vienna, Dendias said that he briefed him on the condition in the eastern Mediterranean underlining that "State Department's clear position can't be misinterpreted".
In this context Dendias expressed his satisfaction over the condemnation of the illegal Turkish behaviour and from the EU partners support to Greece and Cyprus.
On the list of sanctions, the Council has requested from EU services, he said that a list is being drawn up noting that it will be discussed in the next EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Berlin at the end of August.
