ATHENS — Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias briefed Greek political parties on recent developments on Tuesday, underlining the significance of his meetings in Ankara and the open invitation to his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, to visit Greece in return.
He also expressed regret at the impasse of the informal five-part meeting on the Cyprus issue held in Geneva under UN auspices, and said Greece will continue to work in the framework of International Law and the UN Security Council, and in collaboration with the Cyprus Republic leaders, towards a resolution.
"Greek foreign policy and the foreign minister have made known their positions on matters concerning our foreign policy to all our partners and the Greeks can be proud of the foreign policy being followed and feel safe ruling New Democracy parliamentary group general secretary Yiannis Bougas said on Tuesday after his meeting with Nikos Dendias.
Bougas said Dendias briefed him on "current developments in Greece's foreign policy, with emphasis on his recent trip to Turkey and the issues of the Geneva five-party conference [on Cyprus]".
Turkey is violating international legality and is pursuing a division of the island with regards the Cyprus issue, underlined opposition Movement for Change (KINAL) head of foreign affairs issues, Andreas Loverdos, after his meeting on Tuesday Dendias.
"Turkey's stance, and that of the leader of the Turkish-Cypriot community, on the Cyprus issue violate any sense of international legality because it is contrary to all UN decisions… for a viable soluton of the Cyprus issue based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation," underlined Loverdos.
After the meeting, Loverdos said that they had discussed all foreign policy issues.
