Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
SHIRLEY, NY – Lee Zeldin’s campaign headquarters were exuberant as the native Long Islander staved off a challenge from self-described political outsider George Demos, a Greek-American former prosecutor who challenged Zeldin in New York State’s First Congressional District, in Eastern Long Island.
With almost 100% of the votes counted, Zeldin won handily, capturing 62.2% of the vote, to Demos’ 37.8%.
Zeldin was the favorite of the local GOP establishment, but Demos had won the endorsement of two of New York’s biggest Republican heavy hitters: former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Governor George Pataki.
Zeldin faces incumbent Democrat Tim Bishop in the general election in November.
