Daren Metropoulos: Crafting a Real Estate Empire with Historic Flair

August 28, 2024

NEW YORK – Daren Metropoulos, the youngest son of Greece-born billionaire C. Dean Metropoulos, featured in the Wall Street Journal, has made significant real estate investments over the past 18 years, totaling approximately $326 million. Recently, in June, he acquired a historic estate in Palm Beach, Florida, designed around 1919 by architect Addison Mizner, for $148 million in cash. The 23,000-square-foot Mediterranean Revival-style residence is regarded as one of Palm Beach’s most iconic architectural treasures.

Metropoulos, who celebrated his 41st birthday in August, plans to live full-time in Palm Beach with his wife, Yuliya, and their son, while also maintaining homes in New York City, Miami Beach, Hawaii, and Massachusetts. He is dedicated to preserving the historic architecture of his properties while reimagining them for contemporary living.

Growing up in Stowe, Vermont, and later Greenwich, Connecticut, Metropoulos gained early experience in the family business, Metropoulos & Co. He and his older brother, Evan, co-led Pabst Blue Ribbon from 2010 to 2014. In 2018, Metropoulos & Co. doubled its investment in Utz Quality Foods, selling its $150 million equity stake after 15 months.

Daren Metropoulos continues to follow in his father’s footsteps, focusing on both prominent brands and prime real estate assets. His real estate portfolio includes properties in Greenwich, Palm Beach, Miami, and Vermont, among others. One of his early ventures was the 2003 purchase and redesign of the Castle on the Hudson in Tarrytown, New York, which he managed until its sale in 2011.

His real estate investments are viewed as long-term commitments and family heirlooms, with a strategic focus on hidden gems and prime locations. Among his notable properties are two condominiums at the Residences at Mandarin Oriental in New York City and a family compound on Martha’s Vineyard. He also owns a contemporary home in Kauai, Hawaii, an oceanfront home in Miami Beach’s Altos del Mar community, and a condo at the Monaco Yacht Club & Residences in Miami Beach.

Metropoulos’s latest acquisition, Casa Amado in Palm Beach, underscores his commitment to preserving and enhancing historic properties. He plans to maintain the estate’s classic charm while ensuring its continued sophistication.
