NICOSIA (AP) — Cyprus’ president has selected Constantinos Herodotou, an executive member on the national central bank’s board, to replace the outgoing governor.
President Nicos Anastasiades made the announcement on Thursday. Herodotou takes over from Chrystalla Georghadji after her five-year term ends next month.
Anastasiades had tried to remove Georghadji from the post a year into her term over a perceived conflict of interest.
Herodotou served as the central bank’s executive board member since March 2017. Before that, he held the post of commissioner of privatizations for three years.
That post oversaw the privatization of state-owned enterprises that had been required under the country’s international financial rescue in 2013.
Herodotou had worked as an investment banker in London where he joined UBS in 2001.
