Cyprus-Israel Deepen Ties

Cyprus and Israel strengthen their cooperation in the fields of defence and security, in a bid to tackle terrorism and asymmetric threats and ensure stability and security in the region.

Moshe Ya`alon, the first Minister of Defence of Israel to officially visit Cyprus met with Cypriot Minister of Defense  Christophoros Fokaides and signed the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) defining the rights and obligations of each country’s military personnel during joint activities.

Observers noted that “Cyprus and Israel strengthen their cooperation in the fields of defence and security, in a bid to tackle terrorism and asymmetric threats and ensure stability and security in the region,” according to CNA, which reported that Ya’alon “said that Israel and Cyprus are neighbours who share complex challenges but who also hold shared values and interests.”
