Meropi Kyriacou Honored as TNH Educator of the Year
NEW YORK – Meropi Kyriacou, the new Principal of The Cathedral School in Manhattan, was honored as The National Herald’s Educator of the Year.
NICOSIA (AP) — Cyprus’ attorney general says he will appeal a court decision that judged as unconstitutional cuts to civil servants’ salaries imposed during the financial crisis six year ago.
The cuts had helped steady public finances that were nearly depleted during the 2013 crisis, when authorities confiscated savings from some citizens to keep the banking sector from collapsing.
The office of Attorney General Costas Clerides’ said Thursday he will also seek an injunction suspending the ruling’s implementation.
He will also ask that the appeal is heard by all 13 Supreme Court judges due to the ruling’s potential impact on state finances. Apart from the pay cuts, last week’s ruling said that withholding pay raises and imposing a 3% state pension fund contribution were also unconstitutional.
